How do I turn school emails into calendar events?
For one school email, copy the date, time and place into your calendar and keep the original message. For recurring school messages, Tandlo can read emails you forward from chosen senders and suggest dates for you to confirm. With forwarding, Tandlo never has access to your inbox.
Have the details already? Start with Ask Tandlo
Paste the relevant email or message text into Ask Tandlo, or choose Photo for a letter or screenshot. For a school calendar link, paste it into Ask Tandlo or choose Add a calendar. You can also share a PDF from Files or another app to Tandlo where the Share action is available.
Check the dates, child and suggested details before saving. See the ways to use Ask Tandlo. Email forwarding remains useful for recurring messages from the school senders you choose.
For one email, add the date yourself
Open the school message beside your calendar and create an event. Give it a title you will recognise at the school gate, such as "Year 2 trip: bring packed lunch".
- Check the day, month and year, especially when an email says "next Friday".
- Include the start and finish times, place and which child it concerns.
- Make payment deadlines and reply deadlines separate reminders if they fall before the event.
- Keep the original message or a link to it.
This works in Apple, Google and Outlook calendars without an extra app. If the school attaches a calendar invitation, check its details before accepting it.
For regular school emails, forward selected senders
Tandlo gives you a private forwarding address. Choose the senders you want it to read, such as the school office and the school's messaging service. Forward a message yourself, or set up a rule for those senders.
The dates and tasks Tandlo finds wait for your confirmation. Review who each item is for and what the source says. A suggestion is not a confirmed plan.
Start with the illustrated Gmail forwarding guide or Outlook and Hotmail forwarding guide. For Apple iCloud Mail or Yahoo, choose your email provider. The email setup guide also explains sender approval and retention.
How do I remember a school trip payment deadline?
Keep the payment task separate from the trip itself. In a fictional example, a letter might say that £12 is due on 3 November for a trip on 6 November. The plan belongs on 6 November; the payment task is due on 3 November.
When Tandlo suggests a payment task, check the amount and deadline and choose whether to add it. Saving that task does not make a payment. Keep the school's payment instructions in the original message.
What about several dates in one newsletter?
Review the whole newsletter before saving its suggestions. A newsletter can mix whole-school dates, one year group's trip, a payment deadline and a reminder for tomorrow. They may need different children, times or tasks.
Check every suggestion, including any task due before the event. Keep the source message for later changes.
Does an email-to-calendar app need my whole inbox?
Forwarding lets you share selected messages without giving Tandlo access to your mailbox. Set a rule for the actual school senders, rather than turning on forwarding for every incoming email. Mail from an unconfirmed sender is held unread until you approve that sender.
Forwarding is the public email setup route. Tandlo processes the messages you choose to send; it does not need access to your whole inbox. Read Tandlo's privacy notice before choosing what to share.
Would a school calendar subscription be simpler?
If the school publishes the dates you need in a calendar feed, subscribing may be enough. A feed only contains what the school puts in it; a newsletter can include extra deadlines or things to bring.
Add a school calendar to your iPhone or Google Calendar. If you use both a feed and email suggestions, check for an existing event before adding another copy.
What if the school changes a time?
Compare the new message with the event already saved. Check the date as well as the time, then update the plan the adults use. Tandlo keeps the original source alongside suggested changes so you can review what changed.
